KATHMANDU, June 27: A Nepali woman has clinched the international ultra-marathon held in France recently.
Mira Rai from Bhojpur district stood first by completing the 80-km ultra-marathon in 12 and half hours. The marathon was organized in Chamonix of France.
Anna Comet from Spain and Hilary Alin from the US became second and third respectively.
Mira is a former combatant of the UCPN (Maoist). After she was disqualified for the army integration, she grew her interest in sports and fared well.
Earlier, she had also won in the 50-km Skyrunning Asian Championship in Hong Kong last year.
Moreover, she had won the gold medal in another marathon in Hong Kong last December.
Vice-Chairman of Nepal Athletics Association, Sushil Narsing Rana, said, "The victory of Nepali woman athlete in France is a very big achievement for the country's sports."
